Innovation Spring reimagines the site of the original Athens Spring as a gathering place — a contemporary take on North Campus style that celebrates the spring's history and ecology while uniting downtown Athens, North Campus, and the Innovation Hub.
Design Goals
- Provide communal spaces for large and small gatherings
- Celebrate the history and ecology of the original Athens Spring
- Unite downtown Athens, North Campus, and the Innovation Hub
- Create engagement through art and science
Site Program
- ~6,000 sq ft of open gathering space
- Multiple class-sized gathering areas
- A buffer from the noise and sight of the road
- A strong connection to the Innovation Hub and North Campus
- Emphasis on the historical Athens Spring
- An innovative, whimsical invitation to users from downtown and North Campus

- Overhead art sculpture
- Wooden decks with seating
- Brick loggia with wall fountains
- A carnivorous-plant fountain
